Frequently Asked Questions
Why would I want the higher priced 2 talk group version?
The two talk group version permits connected radios to be separated into two separate nets by just flipping a switch for each connected radio. Upgrade can be made later without any part of the original purchase becoming obsolete.
Can I connect NEXTEL phones in the "walkie-talkie" mode?
Definitely. There are interconnect cables for both current series of Nextel iDEN phone.
Can I connect NEXTEL phones in the telephone mode?
Again YES.
Can I connect the ICRI to mobile radios as well as portables?
We've successfully done most Spectra and Astro-Spectra models, as well as Ericsson, Kenwood. We should be able to interface to all mobiles after acquiring the necessary documentation.
How do I power the ICRI for a fixed installation in a command center or command vehicle?
We can provide an AC:DC adapter/converter. If DC power is available, then we can supply a connector for your Techs to wire in (we supply great documentation)..
Why would I want an "audio delay" circuit?
The audio delay is necessary if any of the radios that you will link into the ICRI is/are "trunked" configuration. The delay, which is adjustable, prevents audio from being "lost" which the trunked system makes a channel available to transmit the audio from another radio system.
Can the ICRI be rack mounted?
We can provide a rack-mounting assembly if the ICRI will be installed in a console or 19" rack
What is the difference between the two cases for the ICRI?
A Pelican 1550 case is a bit narrower than the 1600 in one direction; the 1550 has storage space for 2 portable radios and the 1600 can accommodate four portable radios. Other than that they are identical.
How do you power the portable version of the ICRI?
One ICRI to "AA" Battery Pack and adapter is needed (a battery pack with 8 alkaline batteries will power the ICRI for 24 hours) or you may want to consider the cigarette lighter connection.
Do I need a handset to operate the ICRI?
The handset offers a Communications or Ops Officer a way into the "net" without using another radio, otherwise it is not needed even for initial setup.
How would I use the ICRI to improve communications in a below grade, or in building operation?
The 250' universal extension cable permits a radio to be placed up to 1000' (4x250') from the ICRI. If a team has to enter a tunnel or shielded building, this permits the personnel outside the confined space/area of poor RF coverage to maintain radio communications with those inside.
Putting a portable up a tree (seriously) and connected to the ICRI on the ground greatly extends the range of the portable in the tree.
Putting the ICRI in the case with two portable radios and putting the case in the bucket of a ladder truck or on the roof of an adjacent building will enhance communications to responders in high rise buildings... those on the ground talk/listen to the assigned channel of one of the radios with the ICRI and the personnel in the building talk/listen to the assigned channel of the other radio connected the ICRI (you will essentially assembled a small, self-contained repeater).
